Seik Tar’s transmitter beeped furiously, alerting him to an incoming call. Neikir. He sat down in his throne on the Scarphawk’s Talon and accepted it.

“What is it, my son? Do you bear good news?”

“I am going into the dungeon, Father.”

Seik Tar was silent for a few seconds, before finally, he said, “I forbid it. Return to me at once so we can discuss this. Are you feeling…stuck? Lost? Adventurous? Why would my only heir choose to risk himself like this?”

“I cannot, father,” Neikir insisted. “Our honour is on the line.”

Seik Tar wished he’d followed up on that call a few nights ago, but he’d become preoccupied with his discussions with the Alliance, and with the scrap deal he was about to sign.

“What did you do?” he demanded.

“N—nothing. I know, uh, our financial situation, father. If we don’t bring up enough loot, the Guild will run out of funds before the end of the quarter. I must do my part and help motivate the men.”

Neikir didn’t sound too sure of himself, and he was probably lying, but Seik Tar was too far away to interfere now. “Do not do this!”

“It is too late, father. I am delving. I will speak to you in a few weeks.”
